How will the construction of Brookside affect the fire risk to neighboring homes?
Under the fire zone maps released in 2025 by the State Fire Marshall, only a portion of the Brookside site is within a fire risk zone, and that portion is rated as “moderate risk.” None of the site is in a high or very high fire risk zone. Construction of Brookside will improve access to the property by fire fighters and will provide them with additional fire hydrants, improving their ability to extinguish fires on and around the site. That, along with the current building code’s provisions requiring homes to meet high fire resistance standards, means that Brookside will actually pose a smaller wildfire risk to neighboring homes than the site poses in its current condition.
